Research Colloquium: Endocrine links between life cycle evolution and the diversification of salamanders

Vortrag & Museum digital

The evolution of developmental mechanisms underlies the diversification of traits. However, there are inherent challenges to connecting such processes to macroevolutionary patterns. In this talk I will cover examples of how shifts in life cycle modes have influenced the subsequent evolution of several aspects of salamander biology. Both life cycle and trait expression are built on developmental mechanisms. I will discuss comparative hormone experiments that were used to test for associations between tissue transformation and morphological diversification across salamanders. Results will be placed in a broader framework for understanding how developmental mechanisms affect trait diversification.
