Meine Forschungsschwerpunkte umfassen die Bereiche Taxonomie, Artkonzepte, Populationsgenetik, Klassifizierung und Phylogenie. Phylogeographische Analysen tragen dazu bei, vergangene Ereignisse (z. B. die Auswirkungen der Eiszeit auf Populationen) aufzudecken.

Meine Studienmodelle sind Schmetterlinge der Familie Geometridae (Spanner). Geographisch konzentriere ich mich auf die Paläarktis, insbesondere Westasien (einschließlich Mittlerer Osten, Kaukasus, Arabische Halbinsel und Zentralasien).

In Kooperation mit der Staatlichen Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Stuttgart

Schmetterlinge, in der griechischen Mythologie Sinnbild der Wiedergeburt und Unsterblichkeit, sind heute stark gefährdet, in vielen Gegenden nahezu verschwunden. Das dramatische Ausmaß des Insektensterbens wird speziell durch den Rückgang und das Aussterben der auffälligen Schmetterlinge auch einer breiten Bevölkerung deutlich und zum heiß diskutiertes Thema in Politik, Agrarwirtschaft und Wissenschaft. In diesen aktuellen Kontext eingebettet beleuchtete die Ausstellung das Thema von einer ganz anderen Seite: der künstlerischen.

Schmetterlinge und Mode: auf den ersten Blick keine ganz abwegige Kombination. Und so waren es auch diese beiden Aspekte, die das Naturkundemuseum und die Kunstakademie für ein Ausstellungsprojekt zusammenbrachten. Sechs Studierende des Studiengangs Textil-Design ließen sich im Insektenmagazin des Naturkundemuseums von der Vielfalt und Ästhetik der Schmetterlinge inspirieren und entwarfen daraufhin quadratische Halstücher sowie handgewebte Muster für Modestoffe. Neben der Schönheit der bunten „Sommervögel“ verarbeiteten die Studierenden vor allem die akute Bedrohung dieser fragilen Geschöpfe in ihren Entwürfen.
