Research Interests

I am a palaeontologist and carbonate sedimentologist focusing on the Miocene and Quaternary intervals, as well as on actuopaleontology. My main fields of research are continental fossil lagerstaetten in SW Germany (Swabian Alb and North Alpine Foreland Basin, also known as Molasse Basin) as well as the reconstruction of these unique paleoenvironments. My paleontological main topic is the palecology and evolution of Miocene freshwater snails. A further main topic are rhodoliths (red alga nodules) from the Pliocene and Quaternary of Atlantic islands, especially Acores and Cabo Verde. My latest project includes the factors controlling formation of the Quaternary Cannstatt Travertine.
