Coming soon!

Duration: 17.10.2025 – 07.06.2026

Museum am Löwentor

In our upcoming special exhibition, "Triassic Life – Dawn of the age of reptiles" join us on an exciting research expedition back in time to 250 million years ago. Right into the middle of the largest mass extinction in the history of the Earth. But what actually happened to the reptiles afterwards?

During the mass extinction 250 million years ago, a large part of the plant and animal world disappeared forever. But life found its way backreptiles in particular were more successful than ever before. They colonised all habitats and developed an incredible diversity. Take Mirasaura, for example – this newly discovered “wonder reptile” has a crest made of a previously unknown feather alternative and can be admired in the special exhibition.

In the major special exhibition "Triassic Life – Dawn of the age of reptiles", two of our paleontologists and “Temmi”, a prehistoric amphibian – depicted as likeable comic characters – accompany you through the exhibition and tell you fascinating facts about the prehistoric world, the collection and research work, and the latest scientific methods. Take a virtual look over the shoulders of our scientists and preparators and learn exciting facts about our work.

For the first time, parts of the permanent exhibition will also be included in this special exhibition – after all, there are detailed, life-size animal models to marvel at in their habitat. Part of our permanent exhibition is being redesigned for this purpose, so even regular visitors will have something new to discover!

Would you or your children like to try your hand at being a researcher? Then grab an expedition journal and puzzle your way through the exhibition.
